CD/DVD inventory
Disclaimer just in case someone might be wondering.
I created this list for myself to make it easier to remember exactly what I have in the boxes. The list is not complete yet!
I must add media where I have lost the original disks and have them only in ISOs.
Microsoft and Apple: There have been a number of machines around running/purchased with genuine Windows and Mac in the past 15 years, but the stock of CDs is a huge mess. I don't have the keys for most of the original holographic CDs anymore (see notes), the CD cases were thrown away to spare some space, but first and foremost, I don't have these machines and we don't use Windows or Macintosh at all. The copies are backups of scratched or damaged CDs. The MSDN CDs were rescued from the trash but will sooner or later end in recycling.
*BSD/Linux: These are created from freely downloadable ISOs from the Internet. The original OpenBSD CDs were purchased to support development.
Solaris/Sun Studio: Downloadable or free original giveaway kits from Sun Microsystems and Oracle.
AIX and other IBM software: Some of the kits are presents from friends, others came with machines purchased from eBay. Most of these versions are unsupported or outdated by now.
IBM statement about selling CD/DVD (may or may not be relevant and up-to-date):
'A licensed Document has an order number beginning with an 'L.' A licensed Document is part of a specific program that IBM licenses to you.' .. 'Under each license, IBM authorizes you to: ..2. Make copies, modify, and print the licensed Document.'
'You may NOT transfer the original media that has an order number beginning with an 'L.' '
--> from here: /usr/sbin/rsct/README/rsct.core.README in rsct.core.utils 3.1.0.0
Non-OS media: The imaging software was bundled with my digital cameras, and so on. The drivers are for Windows/Mac, came with various hardware I own. Useless CDs will be recycled.
IBM AIX and related products
Note that current versions are available for download via Entitled Software Support or Passport Advantage. This applies for the HMC ISOs and the Power diagnostic CDs.
